Indigo is a design inspired by
Bouyi people. Hard workers live
surrounded by nature that protects
them and feeds them, materials
and colors are predominant and
welcoming.
Indigo is the color of Buyi’s clothing
and is the color that will colonise
our architecture.
A farmer coming back home
balances two baskets full of rice
over his shoulder, dressed in blue
and surrounded by green, he wears
the smile of the one who loves his
home.
The landscape is overwhelming,
we decided to enhance it.
Indigo is delicate on the ground
and open on the top, it floats in
landscape. It is a low building
divided in two exact elements,
like rice baskets, connected by
a bridge and embedded in a
public space. It is designed to
be built with local materials and
it opens to create a scenography
for people and landscape.
Buyi mostly live in upper floors
and use first floors as warehouses,
they built their houses right over
rocks found on the site and the
carved wooden beams lean on
piles of flat stones.
The harmony is eloquent,
Buyi and nature love each other.
Indigo is meant to restore this
intimate link with nature that
concrete destroyed.
